Spit That! is a spoken word poetry club founded in 2006 by Jaylene Clark. We form a community where students may develop and share their thoughts through written and spoken word—in a comfortable and nonjudgmental community. Spit That! educate its members on various aspects of poetry, while helping to craft the writing and performance aspect of its members’ creations. We spread awareness of sociopolitical issues through poetry performances and readings, while providing constructive insight to members who request it.

To ensure our mission statement, we hold workshops once a week and inspire members to share the pieces they have been working on. We also entertain Ithaca College and the Ithaca community through open mic performances and an annual showcase. These events are the highlights of what we do on campus and how we are recognized. In the past, we have collaborated and continue to work with other clubs and organizations on campus, Cornell University and the Ithaca community.
